VIDEO: Enjoy the Boxing Day Swim online

It would have been the annual Boxing Day Swim - or West Bay Wallow - today, but Covid has put a stop to that.

The event, run by Bridport Round Table, attracts hundreds of swimmers and thousands of onlookers each year and raises money for local good causes or a charity of the wallower's choice.

Brave people put on their best fancy dress and make their way into the harbour from the slipway for a freezing swim - something that has become a large part of Christmas in Bridport.

Sad as we all were that it is not going ahead this year (and we hope more people than ever will take the plunge when it hopefully returns next year!) Terry Kay has given us permission to share this video of the Boxing Day Swim from 2007.

Although it was back when swimmers would run into the sea from the beach, the same wonderful spirit we all love at the event is there.
