Virtual vigil for Sarah Everard held in Bridport

Bridport held its own vigil for Sarah Everard, with people coming together over Zoom on Saturday evening.

Many vigils across the country went virtual after a High Court judge refused to say the event would be permitted under coronavirus regulations and police urged organisers to find a 'lawful and safer way' to hold them.

Ms Everard went missing on March 3 when she was walking home in London. Her remains were found in Kent last week and a Met police officer has been charged with the kidnap and murder of the 33-year-old.

Those present shared poems, prayers, thoughts, reflections and even their own experiences of feeling unsafe or shamed by men.

Candles were lit and held outside front doors at 6pm.

It's hoped that there will be a resurgence for Bridfem, Bridport's feminist group. More information can be found here.
