Volunteers who had previously helped out at Bridport Folk Festival were recently thanked at a ceilidh hosted by festival organiser Chris Deacon.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Dave Bolwell, and dancing was led by Wyld Morris.

Mr Deacon announced that he was hoping to stage a folk festival in 2024 but would need more volunteers to form a committee that could work together to bring the event to reality.

The folk festival was conceived to not only for residents and visitors to enjoy a variety of music, but also to raise money for charities.

In a surprise presentation at the ceilidh, Mr Deacon presented a cheque for £3,000 to Ali Cliffe, a trustee of Bridport mental health charity Harmony.

Commenting on the event, the mayor said: "We can only hope enough volunteers and sponsors come forward in the near future to ensure the folk festival rises from the ashes and once again becomes a popular fixture in the Bridport calendar."
