West Dorset MP Chris Loder was given an insight into the delights at the award-winning West Bay Discovery Centre.

He visited the former chapel to view its 'Turning the Tide' exhibition, which tackles the issue of single-use plastic and its impact on the environment.

John West, a trustee at the centre, said: "We were delighted to have Chris visit the centre and show him all that we offer to our visitors.

"We were particularly keen for him to see our latest pop-up exhibition, as we know that the issue of single-use plastic is something he has shown a strong interest in since being elected.

"He was fascinated by the exhibition and he repeated his support for legislation to reduce the amount of single-use plastic produced and used as packaging."

John added: "A staggering eight million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the world's oceans every year.

"Reducing plastic packaging must start with producers and large retailers but we can all make a big impact by seeking alternatives to food and take-away items with plastic packaging.

"The discovery centre is working with the Plastic Free Bridport campaign to help promote this."
