Saturday night at the movies

The Electric Palace in Bridport will be screening Call Jane (12A) on Saturday, January 14, starting at 7.30pm.

The film explores the true story of the 'Janes', an underground collective of women in Chicago during the 1960s, who came together to secretly provide nearly 12,000 women and girls with safe and secure abortions. Tickets cost £7.

Scare away those evil spirits

Bridport Community Orchard - in the St Mary's Field orchard, off South Street - will celebrate the season with wassailing on Sunday, January 15 at 2pm.

Wassailing is an ancient custom of visiting orchards in cider-producing regions of England, reciting incantations and singing to the trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year. Bring along an instrument or pots and pans and make some noise to scare off those evil spirits!
