A beautiful new mural has appeared in Bridport St Mary's playing fields.
Local artist Marina Renee-Cemmick was joined by young people to create the colourful new installation on the wall near Bridport Football Club.
It was a Rights Respecting Town project in association with the Lyric Theatre and supported by Bridport Town Council and follows the artwork Marina painted on the doors at the theatre in Barrack Street, as well as taking part in the venue's Right Up Your Street project earlier this year.
Marina said: "This is meant to be the final part of the project where rather than have a written piece with everything that happened, they wanted to have a big mural painted that expressed the voices of the young people that hang out there."
The piece depicts things, or issues, young people highlighted, such as Black Lives Matter, the right to your own voice, gay and transexual rights, pride and the right to feel safe, plus many more.
From that, Marina created a design and young people of all ages were encouraged to come and help paint it.
Marina added: "We had lots of different people help, so it was really great.
"It was quite hard to get them [young people] over because I don't think they felt confident and they didn't know if they would spoil it, but I would draw a shape and they would fill it in. We had some from Weymouth College, Colfox and all over, so it was a big joint effort.
"There are two big figures at either end, one of them signifies nature and flourishing plants and it's all colourful and bright, and then there is a figure lying blowing a dandelion - I feel you make wishes when you blow dandelions.
"There was a boy who said he felt like a bird in a cage, so there's on big dove and a few seagulls flying and they are hold a pride ribbon, or NHS, because I feel the rainbow is all about unity and coming together.
"There's a big globe in the middle for protecting the planet and there's lots of figures. Those who gave ideas didn't want anyone to be gender specific or racial specific, so they're all colourful and diverse and they've got speech bubbles that say all the things that they were talking about, all the rights they felt were important.
"We had a lot of people come over saying, 'wow, what are you doing?' and it's brightened up the park so much. It was nice to have so many discussions around it.
"I think it would be really nice to change the attitude around young people and I think they feel people look down on them and think they are trouble, but they are not, they are amazing. It was really nice to hear all their input and when they crossed over the line of 'we can do it', they helped for hours - it was great."
