The air ambulance, coastguard and ambulance services were called after a 64-year-old woman fell on rocks in West Bay.

Emergency services were called this morning (Wednesday) after the woman fell while walking on the rock armour on West Beach with her husband and granddaughter.

The South Western Ambulance Service was responding to the incident but requested West Bay Coastguard attend to provide initial care until it arrived.

A spokesperson for West Bay Coastguard said: "On arrival, coastguard officers assessed the casualty who was found to be in an awkward position amongst the rocks, having fallen four to six feet sustaining suspected injuries to her pelvis.

"The West Bay officer in charge (OIC) requested additional coastguard officers from our flank team in Lyme Regis, as well as further resources from the ambulance service, including the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

"The casualty was kept warm and continually monitored whilst officers closed the beach and cleared a landing site for the inbound helicopter."

Care was handed over to the ambulance paramedic crew, with the air ambulance landing shortly after and providing additional paramedic support.

The spokesman added: "Once the casualty had received pain relief and initial treatment, she was carefully manoeuvred from her position amongst the rocks and transferred to the land ambulance for her onward journey to hospital.

"We wish the casualty the very best for her onward recovery.

"We wanted to thank members of the public for their patience whilst the beach closure was in place, allowing the emergency services to provide care to the casualty."
