Bridport Town Council services will continue

Open spaces, play areas and car parks will remain open and the town bus service will continue – but it's uncertain what will happen to Bridport market.

Bridport Town Council is continuing to support the community through the second lockdown.

The coronavirus helpline – 01308 808900 – is available for support and advice to vulnerable people in difficulty and guidance is also available at bridport-tc.gov.uk/coronavirus

It is still unclear what will happen to the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays as guidance so far makes no mention of them. The town council awaits guidance to see if more than just essential stalls can trade.

The recently restarted number 7 town bus will continue to operate as normal on Wednesdays and Saturdays but passengers must wear a mask.

It's car parks – Bridport Football Club and Plottingham – and parks, open spaces and play areas will remain open.

Council staff will continue working to keep services operating and support the community through the heightened restrictions, with Mountfield staff and the TIC tea working from home. The buildings will be closed to the public, but people can still call the usual numbers – 01308 424901 for the TIC and 01308 456722 for town council matters – or visit bridport-tc.gov.uk or bridportandwestbay.co.uk for information, as well as their Facebook pages.

The grounds maintenance and cleaning staff will also continue to work.

Town council meetings are unaffected.

Town clerk, Will Austin said: "The town council and a host of local groups helped to support the community through the first lockdown and we aim to repeat that.

"We very much hope that the Government will put effective plans in place over the course of the next four weeks so that this second lockdown doesn't need to last any longer than that, but I know that town councillors stand ready to help the community whatever the circumstances."
