Police officers are appealing for information as they investigate the theft of a vehicle in Bridport.

At approximately 1.50am on Friday, 29 September 2023, officers were called to an altercation involving a large group of young people outside a bar in East Street.

It is reported that two of the men who were part of the group left the scene in a light blue BMW.

Later that evening at approximately 2.30am, a 24-year-old man from Dorchester was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle and traffic offences after the same vehicle was found crashed into a wall in West Street. He has been released on police bail as officers continue their enquiries.

Police constable Jack White, of Dorset Police, said: "We have been carrying out enquiries into this vehicle theft and we are appealing to members of the public for further information and assistance.

"I would also like to ask anyone who was driving in the Bridport area around the time of the incidents to please check any dashcam footage they may have stored to see if they have captured anything of relevance."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230155140.

Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
