A campaign to bring a refugee family to Bridport has been gifted a painting by a west Dorset artist to raise some money for the cause.
Artist Pamela Allsop has donated one of her paintings to Bridport Refugee Support Campaign.
She has been exhibiting her work with two other artists at The Gallery in Symondsbury, which was inspired by the Covid-19 lockdown.
Pamela said this period of enforced isolation led her to consider the plight of those who are forced to flee their homelands.
She said: "During the pandemic I found myself exploring the journey we are travelling together, with ideas about compassion and love as the ways through."
Her pictures explore the full voyage of refugees, from leaving the dangers of their homeland to arriving in safety.
When she heard of Bridport Refugee Support Campaign, which is aiming to raise £15,000 in order to offer a home to a refugee family, she decided to donate one of her pictures to the cause.
Pamela added: "It was obvious that what I was trying to illustrate was being vividly championed by the campaign, so the least I could do was make a donation."
Her picture, called 'Seeking Refugee', will be on display at The Gallery at Symondsbury Estate until the end of November in order to generate as much interest as possible.
You can see the painting in situ at the gallery throughout the next three shows, which are 'South West Sculptors', an exhibition of 2D and 3D artwork that celebrates colour and form, and a retrospective of the work of local artist Norman Saunders-White.
The painting's reserve price is £400 and bids can be left at the gallery in person or emailed to [email protected]
Exhibitions are open Thursday to Monday from 10.30am to 4.30pm and admission is free.
