An open mic fundraiser highlighting and bringing awareness to mental health has raised more than £350.

The Barking Mad fundraiser was held at Bridport Arts Centre on Sunday featured a line-up of performers - singers, speakers and even a magician - and raise a total of £380.75 for Cupboard Love Food Bank and the Burrough Harmony Centre.

Organiser Roz Copson said: "Thank you to everyone who took part or helped in any way at the Barking Mad fundraiser on Sunday at Bridport Arts Centre.

"Everyone who took part put 100 per cent effort in to their own piece, including personal reflections from Ian Bark and Barry Irvine, a lovely solo by Geraldine of The Ropemakers pub, a monologue on bullying and poems by Lyn, Jo Millar talking on mental health with cancer during the pandemic, Carrie Gamble with her talk on Cupboard Love Food Bank and Dee explaining about the arts centre and shows coming up.

"Thank you to all the trustees, past and present, of Harmony, friends and colleagues and ticket buyers who all supported the event.

"The Burrough Harmony Centre, which focuses on mental health, and the food bank Cupboard Love were greatly publicised, and awareness - in my mind - with regard to mental health is so important. The necessity of mental health support groups and the food bank in these times we live in are of immense value.

"A big thank you to Dee Fenton and Will Austin, the town council and particularly Ian Bark for MC'ing and an extra thank you to Rob Jayne the magician, who had us all guessing, and The Concessions, a trio who sang and played at the end of the event, which went down incredibly well and was greatly appreciated. Thank you also for the team at the Tourist Information Centre for dealing with the tickets.

"Thank you once again."

Roz is continuing to fundraise and will be selling raffle tickets in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare at The Ropemakers pub on Saturday, July 17 from 10am to 8pm and Sunday, July 18 from 12noon to 6pm.
