The Melplash Agricultural Society is offering a free hedge laying taster day.

To keep alive the skills and craftsmanship traditionally used in the conservation of hedgerows, the society will be holding the free session on Sunday, September 5 to introduce those interested in learning the skill of laying a hedge Dorset-Style.

It will start at 10am and finish at 3pm and will be led by a team of local skilled experts and professional hedge layers who will be giving up their time for free to pass on their knowledge and skills to others.

The location, to be confirmed, will be close to Bridport.

All trainees are encouraged to put their new skills into practice by entering the novice class at the annual Melplash Agricultural Society hedge laying competition taking place alongside the ploughing match on Sunday, September 18 on land at Hingsdon, near Netherbury, DT6 5NG, by kind permission of James Bowditch, Elizabeth Findlay and Messrs Symes.
