Bridport: West Dorset MP drops in to visit Scope's new bridal room

By Lottie Welch 2nd Sep 2021

West Dorset MP Chris Loder stopped off in Bridport to meet volunteers at Scope charity shop and to see its new bridal room.

He was able to talk to the team at the East Street shop before shop manager Nicole Hooper invited him to see The Bridal Room, which launched in August.

Chris Loder said: "Scope carries out important work, supporting disabled people and their families, across the country. I am incredibly proud to support the charity's mission to achieve everyday quality for disabled people and support disabled people into the workplace.

"I was so impressed to see the shop's new bridal room. It's a stunning space and I'm very pleased to hear that it was made possible with the hard work and generous donations from our wonderful Bridport community - The Bridal Room is a welcomed service for our town.

"I really enjoyed spending time in Bridport with Nicole and her team. It was an excellent opportunity to see for myself the fantastic work the volunteers do and to talk to them about their individual stories.

"I would encourage anyone who has a few extra hours to spare, each week to consider volunteering in the Bridport shop."

Scope charity shops provide a chance for people to volunteer and offers the chance to gain National Vocational qualifications (NVQs). Volunteering is also a fun way to get out of the house, make friends, meet people and can help to build your confidence.

Shop manager Nicole Hooper said: "I'd like to thank Chris Loder MP, for coming in to meet our team at East Street. It was so exciting and it means such a lot for us to have a high-profile member of the community support Scope's mission to achieve everyday equality for disabled people.

"I'm so pleased he saw first-hand, the hard work of our team of staff and volunteers and, our fantastic Bridport community who all helped to make The Bridal Room possible.

"Our volunteers are extremely important and we wouldn't be able to run the shop effectively without their support.

"We are always in need of volunteers, so if like to get out of your house or learn new skills, I can guarantee by giving a few hours a week to our shop you'll really enjoy working with our fun and friendly team."
