Bridport: Historian returns with new book dedicated to swimming in West Bay
Local historian Elizabeth Gale is back with a new book all about swimming in West Bay.
The author will be signing copies of 'West Bay, Swimming and Some More' at West Bay Discovery Centre on Wednesday, August 18 and Friday, August 20 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Elizabeth was born and grew up in Burton Bradstock but spent a great deal of her time in West Bay where her grandmother owned a bungalow.
Her interest in local history has resulted in four previous books about the local area - 'Growing up in the War', 'Farmers, Fishermen and Flax Spinners', 'Two Days One Summer' and 'The Dog Tags'.
Elizabeth's latest book, 'West Bay, Swimming and Some More', arose out of a suggestion that she should write an article about swimming in West Bay. The article started during the Covid lockdowns then grew into the book, which is now available from the discovery centre - retailing at £7.75 - and Bridport Museum.
Elizabeth is also a regular volunteer at West Bay Discovery Centre.
