Two people needing to be rescued from the cliff sparked a major emergency response in Eype.

Police, fire, coastguard and the ambulance service were called on Wednesday afternoon and the coast path was closed.

Lyme Regis Coastguard was tasked just after 4.45pm to help colleagues at West Bay Coastguard to the reports of a woman calling for help down the cliff face at Highlands End.

A spokesman said: "Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was also on scene with crews from Bridport and special rescue teams from Weymouth and Poole. Ambulances, both land and air, were on scene with police. A coastguard helicopter from St Athan in Wales was also en-route.

"The doctor and paramedic from the air ambulance were able to reach the casualty to make an assessment. It was decided that the casualty should be recovered to the cliff tp by the fire service rope rescue team.

"The coastguard rope rescue team recovered the doctor, paramedic and the casualty's husband, who had scrambled up the cliff face.

"A successful multi-agency operation in a difficult area of unstable cliff."

Dorset Police were called at just after 4.50pm and a spokesman said: "Dorset Police received a report from HM Coastguard about a woman shouting for help on the cliff south of Highlands End Holiday Park in Eype. There was also a report that a man tried to climb up the cliff to help the woman.

"Officers attended to assist the fire service and coastguard. The two people were rescued. The woman sustained minor injuries."
