Bridport Museum continues its fascinating programme of talks on local history this month.

Every Monday until the end of August, the museum will open at 5pm for the talks, starting at 5.30pm, with audience members welcome to enjoy the museum's displays and explore the grade II listed building in South Street before the talks start.

The museum shop also has lots of beautifully items hand-made by volunteers to browse.

Subjects will include the geology of the Jurassic Coast, local history and lives of workers in Bridport's industries, and a practical ropemaking demonstration.

The talks programme celebrates Bridport and beyond and raises funds for Bridport Museum Trust, a registered charity.

This month's talks will be as follows:

  • Monday, June 5 - a talk by Vincent Shepperd on 'How were Jurassic Coast landmarks formed? Local geology explained'
  • Monday, June 12 - a talk by local author Sarah Acton on 'Seine fishing from Chesil Beach'
  • Monday, June 19 - a talk by Professor Colin Divall called 'Do you really call that progress, Mr Marples?' on the closure of the Abbotsbury and Bridport branch lines
  • Monday, June 26 - a talk by Professor Karen Hunt on 'Bridport and Refugees'

A full programme is available from the museum shop or Tourist Information Centre, where you can find out about all the planned speakers. Each talk will last from 60 to 90 minutes.

Tickets for each event are just £5, available in advance from the museum or on the door, with cash or card accepted.

As spaces are limited, booking in advance is recommended.
