Police appeal after crash at Portesham left motorcyclist seriously injured

Police investigating a crash in Portesham which left a motorcyclist seriously injured are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police were called at 10.34am on Friday, September 22 to the B3157 Coast Road, near to the turning to Grove Lane between Portesham and Chickerell. The crash involved a red Seat Ibiza and a white Yamaha motorcycle.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and the motorcyclist – a man aged in his 40s from Weymouth – was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries. His family has been informed.

The driver of the Seat was uninjured.

Road closures were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for investigation work to be carried out at the scene.

Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the traffic unit, said: "We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

"I would also ask anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage to please get in touch.

"Finally, I want to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place. These are necessary to allow emergency services personnel to respond to the incident and for a detailed examination of the collision scene to be carried out."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting incident number 24:223.
