Bridport Climate Response has launched a new website so residents can get more information on many aspects of climate change.

At bridportclimateresponse.net, you can find out about home energy, habitat restoration, wellbeing, emergency resilience and much more, with simple answers or fuller briefings.

The new site has been developed by a local non-profit group, Seeding our Future, and the costs have been supported by a grant from Bridport Town Council.

Alan Heeks, of Seeding our Future, said: "The need for a new website as a single source of information on this complex topic emerged from the public consultations we ran late last year.

"We have aimed to keep the website as clear and easy to use as possible, with separate sections on a range of topics, easily accessible from our homepage.

"We are fortunate in Bridport to have a wide range of organisations involved in many aspects of climate responses, including food access, habitat restoration, mental wellbeing and many more, and you can find these all listed alphabetically and by topic on the website.

"We believe that our community, like others across the UK, is likely to face increasing disruption from extreme weather events and knock-on effects such as power cuts, so I urge people to have a look at the emergency resilience section, which offers advice on basic precautions, like having torches and a stock of essential food at home."

Some of the main features on the website include:

  • Six simple steps - actions you can do at home to save money and reduce your climate impact
  • Directory - list of local organisations relevant to most aspects of climate change
  • Volunteering opportunities - help local non-profit groups which depend heavily on volunteers
  • Wellbeing - national and local resources to help with wellbeing
  • Young people - listing resources and support for young people, as well as info on the Challenge Fund, which helps give young people a voice on climate change in our community
  • Big picture - a brief overview of what climate change is, how it may affect us in Bridport and ways to lobby for national policy changes

Bridport mayor Ian Bark said: "The recently launched Bridport Climate Response website provides a comprehensive insight into what is already happening locally and the steps we need to be taking in order to help yourself, the climate and our community work towards a long-term sustainable future.

"Food, habitat, wellbeing, emergency resilience, travel and home energy advice and support, plus strategic thinking about the way forward are all covered on the site.

"The website is a very welcome virtual hub where almost everything you want to know about green issues and opportunities locally and globally can be found."
