Sixth form students at the Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport have raised £2,196.45 food charities to help those in need this festive season.

The sixth form organised a Rag Week, featuring a host of fun events for the whole school to enjoy during the last week of term, and the money raised was divided between the Colfox Fund and the Cupboard Love Food Bank.

They also secured generous sponsorship from local businesses Clocktower Records, Symonds and Sampson, Gavin Dixon Finance Solutions Ltd, Nantes and Bridport Round Table.

Eddie Rose, in Year 13, who helped co-ordinate the week, said: "It was great fun organising all the events and seeing everyone enjoying themselves, but most importantly we have been raising a lot of money that will help those in need.

"I am delighted that we are able to help two very worthwhile causes, namely the Colfox Fund, which has been set up by our school to buy breakfast and uniform for students in need, and Cupboard Love Food Bank.

"Amazingly this is the 40th year that Colfox has run a Rag Week, so we have enjoyed looking back with our teachers and it has made this week an extra-special celebration."

Events organised by the sixth form included 'I'm a Teacher Get Me Out of Here', teacher versus student sporting competitions and a non-uniform day.

Students also produced a Rag Magazine, looking back at 40 years of Colfox Rag Weeks, which sold very well.

Adam Teasdale, head of sixth form, said: "The sixth form have always taken Rag Week seriously – year after year the students manage to raise more money for charity than the previous year and this year is no different.

"We have decided to donate this year to The Colfox Fund after many years of raising and giving to national and international charities. As we come out of a difficult couple of years, the idea of helping the school provide for every student was very appealing to the sixth form.

"We have also helped to raise donations for Cupboard Love.

"Rag Week has always been a highlight for students – the sixth form have helped students throughout the school feel involved and ready to give generously to charity.

"We have an incredible student body who always give their best to everything they do. Raising money for charity and looking after others is something our students do very well!"
