Bridport weekend review: Tortilla Cantina at the West Bay Hotel

Bridport's popular Mexican takeaway has expanded, offering even more ways for you to enjoy its delicious food.

Tortilla Cantina has taken over the West Bay Hotel and customers can enjoy an authentic Mexican meal in the pub.

The team is offering a new, full menu - alongside food from its takeaway trailer - so we thought we would go down and try it out.

The pub was busy with diners but we were served quickly and browsed the menu offering a range of tacos and quesadillas, nachos, chilli, fish dishes, chicken wings and more.

We opted for the nachos, pan fried bream, served with spicy tomatillo sauce, rice, summer greens and heritage tomato salsa, and the chorizo and black bean quesadilla.

The nachos - even the chips on their own - were delicious and come with cheese, tomato salsa, guacamole, garlic and paprika sour cream and are a brilliant sharing starter - fresh and full of flavour!

The chorizo and black bean quesadilla is filled with coastal cheddar, tomatillo salsa, chilli black beans and chorizo, served with a delicious cantina salad of shredded beetroot and carrot, jalapenos, lime and agave. It had a nice kick of chilli that didn't over power the meal or build up and was quite big - it's made with a 12" tortilla wrap.

The rich, smoky flavour really complimented the earthy taste of the beetroot in the salad.

The bream was very light and the flavours went together beautifully, which was boosted by the Isle of Wight tomatoes, which Tortilla Cantina gets from Washingpool Farm Shop.

Tortilla Cantina aims to be an authentic Mexican but use as many local producers as possible - including cheese from Ford Farm.

It is "pure, honest food", so make sure you try it out for yourself!

Tortilla Cantina is offering lunch and dinner at the West Bay Hotel Wednesday to Saturday, and is also open 12noon to 4pm on Sundays. Its takeaway trailer is also open, with the introduction of street food Tuesdays when all the trailer food will be available in the pub at takeaway prices. The team is also at The Pop-Up Kitchen in Lyme Regis Friday to Monday.
