A Bridport pre-school needs residents' help and their unwanted clothing, shoes, duvet covers and more to help raise £2,000.

St Catherine's Pre-school has launched a fundraising project to help fund a new garden fence.

Since Covid-19, the pre-school has made changes to increase how much time they spend learning and playing outside.

Holly Barwick, chairman of St Catherine's Pre-school committee, said: "They already use their garden area at least 50 per cent of the time but now it's more like 80 per cent, so to protect the children and staff from the winter weather, we decided to replace the old fence with a new taller fence and wind break.

"St Catherine's Pre-school is a charity run organisation and relies on fundraising to cover this kind of cost within the setting."

Due to Covid restrictions the team at the pre-school is unable to hold its 'big' fundraising event this year, which is normally a fun gig night with bands and a raffle, so they are using online raffles and this week it's an event called 'bags2school'.

Holly added: "Parents and locals are asked for clothes, shoes, soft toys, duvet covers etc in used but good condition and the pre-school will get paid for the weight of the items.

"Being a small pre-school of only 40 children, we are asking for any locals to donate. The collection will be on Thursday, October 15 so any items need to be at St Catherine's Pre-school by Wednesday, October 14, but please contact us before you need to drop off any items to make sure we are there."

The pre-school is also in need of a new washing machine after it broke at the weekend. If anyone has one they would like to donate, the team would be 'ever so grateful'.

The pre-school can be contacted by calling 01308 424441, 07790 972280 or emailing [email protected]
