Cruise liner stops off in West Bay

By Lottie Welch 11th Feb 2021

West Bay has a new visitor.

A cruise liner, believed to be the Marella Discovery on its way to Hamburg, stopped off West Bay on Monday evening.

The ship was anchored in Weymouth Bay close to Portland in November when a 43-year-old male crew member fell ill with suspected meningitis.

Weymouth RNLI was called which took the man from the cruise ship back to the harbour where an ambulance was waiting.

Tests for meningitis and Covid-19 both came back negative and the man was expected to make a full recovery.
