Although a name hasn't been decided yet - a series of events will be coming to Bridport to celebrate young people's influence in the town.

In his weekly roundup, Bridport Mayor Ian Bark announced the launch of Bridport 'Youth Festival'.

Mayor Bark decided to make young people the focus in his Mayoral Year 22-23, "throughout the coming year I will be making every effort to support and encourage all our young people whenever and wherever I can," he said.

He continued: "In order to give this Mayoral Year a really dynamic focus and purpose, it is my intention to bring it to a climax with a week of events and festivities centred around the young people of Bridport."

The event would showcase all that Bridport's young people have to offer, they would take the lead in generating and delivering ideas, show what the town has to offer them, and show appreciation for young people.

A meeting a Bridport Town Hall last week was attended by people from a variety of backgrounds - all invited to share ideas and discuss how they could be of mutual support.

He added: "Tuesday evening was the first step, a fuse has been lit, and my sincere hope is that those present departed full of enthusiasm for the Bridport Youth Festival and brimming with ideas as to how they and/or their particular organisation can be part of this most exciting opportunity."
