Filling Bridport's streets with music: Clocktower Too opens in South Street
Bridport's music offering has expanded with the opening of a new shop on the high street.
Nestled in South Street next to the Electric Palace, Clocktower Too offers an extensive range of CDs, music memorabilia and some vinyl, and is the 'young apprentice' of Clocktower Music in St Michael's Trading Estate.
Owner Roy Gregory said: "Immense thanks to Alasdair Warren [owner of the Electric Palace] for the opportunity. We are excited to be here, right on the premier retail street of Bridport in South Street and we look forward to working with the Electric Palace.
"We see this [Clocktower Too] as being a very different shop to Clocktower Music in that it has things like memorabilia and CDs that are not in the other shop. Clocktower Music is essentially all vinyl and at Clocktower Too we are focusing on rare and collectable CDs.
"It acts as a gateway to Clocktower Music and St Michael's. People come in and we tell them there is another shop down there, along with the art and vintage quarter, shops and café. We wanted it [the shop] to help promote St Michael's - it helps all the businesses down there and we are trying to do something for tourism in the town."
As well as being different to Clocktower Music in what it sells, Clocktower Too also has a completely different interior, designed as a spaceship.
Roy added: "The idea behind it was it couldn't be a repeat Clocktower Music, so we wanted something eye catching but different. The idea was that a lot of things in Bridport are last century, so we wanted to do something futuristic. The design is inside of a spaceship and the thought behind it is if you're going into a spaceship to buy CDs and vinyl, then they will be available in the future."
There are futuristic and space-inspired wall coverings, thought to be used in the film Silent Running, 'exploding death star' lights and a replica NASA space suit with Bowie head.
"A big thanks to Jackie Cook and Laura Dron," said Roy. "Lots of people helped, came in and painted, we did everything as a team."
The shop got its name, Clocktower Too, as when you stand outside, you can see the other clocktower - the town hall clock - too.
