Here's what could be in store for Bridport Millennium Green
The results are in for what residents would like to see at Bridport Millennium Green.
Response to the Millennium Green's five-year management plan has shown overwhelming support for restoration of the Mountfield entrance to the woodland walk. Nearly 93 per cent of respondents were in favour of making the entrance more attractive and rebuilding the historic feature.
Paul Bennett, Millennium Green Trust secretary, said: "This was the most popular choice for improvement. As a result, work has already begun to clear the area and make it look more attractive."
Adjacent to the entrance, the restoration of the 'Ice House' was also very much favoured. Trustees were particularly keen that the 'Ice House' could be used to show how in the past before electricity and refrigeration, this was a way foods were kept.
However, documentary evidence is needed to support the local word of mouth that it is an Ice House. Anyone with information should email [email protected]
The full conclusions from the public consultation can be viewed at bridportmillenniumgreen.co.uk on the noticeboard page.
Other possible projects which received high support included planting some parkland trees on the meadow, thinning sections of the woodland by glades and establishment of a woodland edge. All of these measures were aimed to increase wildlife habitats and diversity.
Paul added: "Trustees now look forward to any feedback on their conclusions before deciding a more detailed programme.
"The restoration of the entrance to the woodland walk, which was the original entrance to Down Hall, and the Ice House work will be a long process, involving planning approvals and fundraising.
"In the meantime, the area continues to be enjoyed by residents, with again more people during this second lockdown using it for exercise, and outside space."
