Groves Nurseries has had a brilliant response to its campaign to spread some festive cheer this Christmas.

Following an article on Bridport Nub News of the garden centre calling on businesses to sponsor a Christmas tree for a school or charity, a number have come forward to offer their support.

Here are five of those businesses that are supporting the cause:

DarkBear bar

DarkBear is a cocktail bar based at 115 East Street, under the Bridge House Hotel. It also delivers and posts cocktails and has just released its Christmas cocktails and hampers. It is also selling mocktail sets to help raise money for Cupboard Love Food Bank.

It is open Wednesday to Friday 4.30pm to 11pm, 12noon to 11pm on Saturdays and 12noon to 5pm on Sundays.

For more information, visit DarkBear's page on Facebook.

On sponsoring one of the Christmas trees, Lloyd Brown, of DarkBear, said: "I thought it was a great community cause so really wanted to get involved."

The Foot Fairy

Helen Cross is a qualified foot health practitioner and can deliver friendly foot care in the comfort of the client's own home - helping with nail trimming and filing, corns, verrucas, hard skin/calluses, diabetic feet and finished off with a massage.

On sponsoring one of the Christmas trees, she said: "I love to think that I can give something to our local community - I was born in Bridport and have lived locally my whole life.

"I know it has been a tough couple of years for lots of people and I feel that if we can all do something no matter how big or small, this can potentially make a massive difference to a lot of people."

The Cherry Tree

The Cherry Tree was founded in Bridport by Mark, Sarah and Gavin and has won more than 190 Great Taste and Taste of the West Awards for its preserves, which are handmade in small batches and taste tested by the chefs and owners before it leaves.

It offers a 'one stop deli shop' at cherrytreepreserves.co.uk offering sweet and savoury preserves, gifts, cheeses, biscuits, pate and condiments - you can use checkout code WELCOME for free delivery on your first order of £20 or more.

On sponsoring one of the Christmas trees, the team said: "We are delighted to be supporting Groves Nurseries' Christmas tree donations this year.

"It's been a particularly difficult few years for local businesses, charities, schools and the wider community. We owe so much to the area where we were founded, and the place where many of our colleagues still live, that spreading some love at this time of year through a beautiful tree, is the very least we can do."

Forest and Tree Care Ltd

Forest and Tree Care is a long-established tree company which undertakes all types of tree and garden works, covering Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Carl, of Forest and Tree Care, "We sponsored Groves Nurseries because they are a local company that employs lots of local people, supplying good quality trees and plants with a really good knowledge of all plants sold.

"I believe that it is good to support local businesses, especially when it is going to benefit children and charities."

Highlands End Holiday Park

Highlands End Holiday Park offers a range of facilities and accommodation on the coast at Eype. As well as a holiday park, it has a restaurant, leisure facilities - such as a swimming pool, steam room and sauna - an children's soft play and play area.

"Highlands End Holiday Park chose to support this great cause as part of our giving back to the community ethos our team and family have.

"Unfortunately, this year due to Covid there have been very few opportunities to sponsor events in our 50th year at Highlands End, we thought this was a great cause, and well done to Groves for stepping up and getting it started.

"We look to support many local initiatives and Charlie and his team's campaign to provide Christmas trees to schools and charities is just one that we had to help with."

Other business and groups to support the cause include Bridport Round Table, Bredy Veterinary Centre, Man and Van Bridport, Rural Ranges, OCD Cleaning Services Beaminster, Ed Bailey General Builder, Simon Speak Estate Agent, Wrixton Smyth Creations, H C Lewis, South Street Antiques, Rainbow Parties Dorset, Hartley Accountants, Chesil Security Ltd, Beau Hairdressing Bridport, Imaginary Friends, Little Groves Nursery and Ivy House Kitchen.

The other businesses that have supported the campaign will be highlighted in subsequent articles.
