A Bridport hair salon could be converted into a business selling takeaway "quality street food".

An application for change of use for 5A South Street, in Bucky Doo Square, is being considered by Dorset Council, following the closure of the Uppercuts hairdressing business in September, which had been operating since the 1990s.

The application, submitted by Jason Hawker states: "I, the property owner, Mr Phil Frampton who owns Frampton Butchers (30 yards away under the town hall, which has been in business there since 1993), and Stuart Newman who is a very experienced chef, would like to open a takeaway serving quality street food from hog roast baps, ribs, steaks, meat balls, etc. We would like to call the business Bucky Doo Street Food."

The shop would be open Monday to Saturdays from 8am to 5pm. The details of the interior work are basic with a serving cabinet, refrigerator, wash up area that is already in shop, an oven, grill, fryer, coffee machine and extractor fan.

No changes are planned to the exterior of the building.

The full application can be viewed on Dorset Council's planning website at https://planning.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/ by searching reference number P/FUL/2023/00207.

Public comments on the application can be made until February 24 at with a decision expected to be made by a planning officer, rather than go before a committee of councillors.
