Police are appealing for witnesses after a fire was started in East Street car park

Police are investigating a possible case of arson in Bridport, after a fire was started in a VW van in a car park and spread to two other vehicles.

The incident happened at about 5.15am on Tuesday, August 8 in the East Street car park, Bridport.

It is believed that the fire started in a white VW and then spread to a blue VW and a grey Mini. Due to the circumstance of the fire, it is possible that the fire was started deliberately.

All vehicles had been parked and were unoccupied at the time and, therefore, nobody was injured.

Police Constable Megan O'Donovan, of Dorset Police, said: "We have been making a number of enquiries to find out how the fire started, but have so far been unable to establish the circumstances.

"I realise that not that many people would have been out and about at this time of the morning, but I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened or has any information regarding the fires to please contact us."

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230124187.

Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
