A beautiful crab apple - of the golden hornet variety - is due to join other blossoming trees in Bridport St Mary's Church yard.

It will be planted by the Rector, Rev Deb Smith on Sunday (March 13) at 12.15pm after the morning service.

The tree is a gift from Bridport Tree Planting, whose co-ordinator Joe Hackett said: "I'm looking forward to help establish this eight-foot ornamental tree, which will have year-round interest and attract bees, butterflies and birds. We hope it will have heavy autumn crops of golden yellow fruits after pink-tinged white blossoms in spring.

"This will bring to a close another busy season for us around Bridport with hundreds of saplings planted or given away to householders and landowners, to such projects at The Cowshed and The Living Tree allotments and new plantings in St Mary's Fields and at the walkway/cycle track down to West Bay."

Bridport Tree Planting has donated and planted hundreds of trees since it was set up in 2019.
