The revitalised Bridport Community Charter Fair will swing into action next Saturday (May 14).

Now based at Mountfield, it will take place from 9.30am to 3.30pm, with the mayor of Bridport, councillor Ian Bark, presenting the annual awards at 10am.

The Above and Beyond Award will go to Sandra Brown for her work throughout the community for many years.

Last year, the Charter Fair Trophy was presented to the team at Bridport Medical Centre in recognition of their outstanding service to the community during the coronavirus crisis. This year the trophy will be awarded to the medical centre's partners throughout that difficult period, the many volunteers who did such a brilliant job in meeting the challenge and helping to overcome it. The trophy will be retained at the medical centre.

The free event also includes entertainment, with Dan Shackell and Sue Smith, Bridport Young Performers, Bridport Choral Society, Bridport Musical Theatre, Shiraz, Rough Assembly with Chloe Rainey and the Phoenix Youth Band.

At 12.50pm there will be maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen on the Millennium Green will be introduced after some years, thanks to the Lyric School of Dance.

With 44 organisations running stalls, Jurassic Fields Music Festival running the bar, Bridport and Brit Valley Rotary Clubs offering refreshments, and the young performers and musical theatre providing a children's area with face painting and the chance to have a photo taken with Rexy the Dinosaur - donations welcome - there should be a lot to see and do.

Free event programmes are available at Bridport Tourist Information centre.

The Bridport Community Charter Fair has been kindly sponsored by McCarthy Stone.
