More than 200 people of all ages took part in the Amazing Drawing Festival held in Bridport last week.

Following a successful pilot last autumn, the event was organised for the second time by Jo Burlington at Oops Wow Messy Art and held at Bridport Youth & Community Centre, with several local artists helping to run drawing activities over two days.

The first day, for children and families, was held last Wednesday with 150 children taking part and many staying for hours having a go at different the different kinds of drawing on offer.

The second day, on Saturday, was for adults only and was much calmer but still with 55 people taking part.

Throughout both days, workshops were led by local artists including 'flying drawing', collaborative 3D drawing, drawing with scissors, charcoal, dust, tape, drawing with feet, and drawing what could be felt in the mysterious boxes.

Artists taking part included Jo Burlington, Eileen Haste, Angie Porter, Claudia Dharamshi, Claire Nuttall, Veronica Hudson, Helen Garrett, Louise Riley, Angela Latham and Tara Harland Viney, supported by a group of 16 volunteers who helped the events run smoothly, as well as The Bridport Energy Champions who provided a free cafe on both days.

The festival was also supported with funding from Dorset Council Culture & Community Fund and West Bay Car Boot Fund.

Jo said: "It was such a thrill to see so many people excited about drawing and loving the experience of doing it. Many people have big hang-ups about it; 'I can't draw' is something so many people say about themselves.

"The motivation behind the event was to encourage people to draw in playful and unusual ways, to expand their understanding of what drawing can be.

"It seems there is a big appetite for this kind of event in the town... the main feedback we had was for more!"
