Success for Bridport Garden Glut stall as donations from local shops, supermarkets and growers come in

Bridport Garden Glut stall is going from strength to strength with donations coming in from supermarkets, local shops and growers.

Following on from the success of the stall held at St Mary's Primary School during the school holidays by HOME in Bridport and Transition Town Bridport, Bridport Community Fridge and Bridport Local Food Group have joined forces to continue the initiative.

Free food, including fresh fruit and vegetables, is available from the weekly stall in St Swithun's Church car park in North Allington on Thursdays from 10am to 1pm, kindly donated by local shops, supermarkets and growers to help local families.

Peter Wilson, who initiated and runs the stall at St Swithun's, said: "We are very pleased that the word is getting out and that we are reaching the needy and vulnerable, as well as anyone who wants to see food waste reduced.

"We are receiving donations from Waitrose and the Co-op, mainly bread, cakes and packaged veg. In addition, we are getting fresh fruit and vegetables from St Mary's school garden, local allotments and gardens.

"There is no charge but we are accepting donations towards costs including publicity."

If you have surplus fruit and vegetables and would like to donate, please deliver to St Swithun's from 9.30am on Thursday or contact Peter Wilson on 07778 159826 or email [email protected]
