With Christmas just over three months away, members of the Rotary Club of Bridport spent a pleasant afternoon in the September sunshine potting hyacinth bulbs in readiness for selling in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

In all. just over 2,100 bulbs were planted in peat-free-compost in recycled plastic pots. Within two hours more than 700 pots, each with three bulbs, were planted and neatly stored away.

The bulbs will be on sale this year with a choice of colours, blue, pink and white, as in past years. They will be available before Christmas from stalls on Bucky-Doo Square and in Beaminster on Saturday and, possibly, some Wednesday mornings, from local shops and from club members.

Club President, Chrissie Bailey, said: "I was so sorry not to join club members at this year's bulb planting, sadly away from home. But as you can see there was great industry and of course fellowship throughout the afternoon.

"Next stop Christmas and Bucky-Doo and Beaminster!"

Full details of where the bulbs will be on sale will be advertised and on the club website nearer the time.

All profits will go to support local, national and international charities and other needy causes.
