Bridport Town Council 'strongly supports' plans to turn four flats at West Rivers House to eight.

The application has been submitted by Dorset Council, which wants to use the building in West Allington to provide accommodation for homeless people.

Plans include four flats - one studio, one one-bed, one two-bed and one three-bed - plus communal areas on the first floor. This is currently two flats - one three-bed and one six-bed - and communal areas.

One the second floor the applicant wants to have the same sized flats as the first floor with a common room and communal areas. This is currently a three-bed flat and a six-bed flat with communal areas.

The application was discussed at Bridport Town Council's planning committee this week.

Councillor Kelvin Clayton said: "I don't see anything to object, in fact I would support this.

"I am also conscious the Dorset Council's homeless strategy is going out for consultation soon and this will be part of it and I would want to support that as much as I can."

Cllr Dave Bolwell said he would "struggle to say no to this on any reason".

The council agreed to "strongly support" as the development "provides much needed support in the community".
