Bridport Old Boys walking football team held a five-a-side tournament in memory of their friend and founding member Stuart Broom.

The event, held at St Mary's Fields on Friday, raised £140 for Pancreatic Cancer Research, following the sudden death of Bridport resident Stuart in December.

In continual pouring rain, 20 members played against each other in four teams. There were lots of goals and, as usual, the games were played in a friendly spirit.

The eventual winners were Mark Vichion, Ray Sheehan, Steve Meek, Brian Smith and Neil Hammond.

Event organiser Kevin Moys thanked the players, who each made a donation to take part. Funds were boosted by paying a further £1 for each foal scored.

Club chairman Joe Hackett said: "Stuart was a founder member when we started and his sudden death last winter - he was hoping to have a knee operation to enable him to continue playing - was a shock and a loss to us all."

Bridport Old Boys also enjoyed a social meal the night before the tournament.

There is currently a waiting list to join the team – for more information email [email protected]
