Who has walked past The Three Horseshoes pub in Burton Bradstock and stopped to admire its window display?
Caught by the 'We love pubs' proudly displayed followed by a range of poems, including the team's own limerick:
There once was a pub called the 'Shoes',
That served the most wonderful booze,The punters were fun,
We all felt like one,But lockdown can be such a snooze
Children are being encouraged to write a poem, sonnet, free verse, rhyme, limerick -anything - about the local area, with the winning entries framed and displayed in the pub for all to see once it is open.
The winners - one from the 10 and under group and one from the 15 and under group - will win Sunday lunch from The Three Horseshoes, either takeaway or eat in when it reopens, for up to four people.
The poems must be original and unpublished and sent to [email protected] with their name and age.
Don't forget to check out The Three Horseshoes takeaway offerings on its Facebook page.
INN CROWD and Pub is The Hub joined forces to launch 'Winter Warmers', a campaign which aims to bring cheer and hope to publicans, their staff and their local communities during these challenging times.
The Winter Warmers campaign came from a desire to bring together two industries that make an invaluable contribution to our society, to do something positive for the publicans and artists working in these sectors which have been so adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is based on a collection of heart-warming poems about pubs written by seven poets.
Malakika Kegode is the South West poet who wrote 'The Best Ones'
The best ones always feel like a secret.
Dripped in warmth, maroon carpets cradlingfamiliar voices as the clink clink of pint glass turns
our stories into song, the weight of the day evaporating in the space between bodies.
Insecurities dissolve as we fall into each other,
screech chairs across floors, make space on sofas to stretch our nights, blanket
ourselves with company. Even in unfamiliar townsthere's still sweetness in the air,
still open-mouthed laughs over card games, still sarnies and scotch eggs. A world to welcome us.
I find myself here. Again and again.
Leaning into the place that gifts us peace in public.Where the love can be a quid on a jukebox,
a well-written quiz, another round before closing.
