The campaign group against the development of 760 home on the outskirts on Bridport is urging people to have their say on the proposals.

A detailed planning application for the Vearse farm development was submitted last month.

A spokesman for ADVEARSE said: "We recognise that because the consultation period straddles the Christmas break it has been difficult for people to examine the detailed proposals. The official closing date has been extended to January 17 although we understand comments placed after that will still be noted.

"Foundry Lea will be a major event in the history of the town and it is essential that the interests of local people are heard and incorporated in the final plans."

Bridport Town Council has put together comments and a summary video for residents, which can be found here.

ADVEARSE has also published its response to the proposals, with its key demand being that the proposals are not just looked at by the planners, but also referred to the councillors on the planning committee where they can be discussed in public.

The spokesman added: "We are proposing that approval is withheld until plans are provided for the other part of this 'mixed-use' development. This will include employment land, a care home, a local centre and a school.

"Our main concerns, which are covered in detail in the response on the website, are about the threat of flooding and sewerage discharge, the access of the additional traffic created by 760 households, the lack of additional parking in town. We have a raft of proposals which reflect our concerns about climate change and sustainability.

"Above all we urge that more time is given to develop plans which would tie in with the Bridport Neighbourhood Plan. These would mitigate the negative impacts of the development and contribute to the town's best long-term interests."
