A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

There was a large police presence in Bridport's South Street yesterday (Monday) evening.

Dorset Police received a report at 8.50pm that a window of a property on South Street had been smashed.

Officers attended and carried out a search of the area. A 16-year-old boy from Bridport was arrested at around 9.20pm on South Street on suspicion of criminal damage. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "During the incident, it is reported that the boy assaulted a police officer and he was further arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker and resisting a constable in the execution of their duty. Three officers sustained minor injuries.

"The increased police presence in the area was due to the level of violence reportedly being used against officers.

"The boy was taken to hospital for treatment to a pre-existing injury to his arm. He is currently assisting officers with their enquiries."
