A Bridport author is dedicated to sharing her passion and educating school children across the country.

Laura Swift, who self-published Precious Plastic - a story about plastic pollution in our oceans which encourages readers to make changes to protect our planet - is fundraising to share this story with as many children as possible.

She said: "I am very passionate about our oceans, having written my own children's book based on ocean pollution. I knew I wanted to do more, to deliver this important message to young people without them having to purchase the book, to provide lesson plans to accompany it so that all children may learn from it and be inspired to make a change. In order to educate, we must first create understanding - understanding of the cause and effect."

Laura wants to provide free resource packs to all schools, which will include lesson plans, books and guidance, with the hope to then offer fun and educational workshops in schools.

"I have collaborated with a local school [Symondsbury Primary School] which has just achieved plastic free status, and completed 100 ways to change the world," she added.

"It has the same drive and desire to create a ripple effect and encourage other schools to do the same, to encourage children to use their voices, to stand up and be heard.

"The aim is to start with our local schools around Bridport then spread to Dorset and beyond across the south."

Laura has set a target of £10,000, which she said would enable her to "really make an impact" and target schools beyond the county, but is initially hoping to raise 2,000 to launch the initiative locally, which she hopes to do on June 10.

She has set up a Go Fund Me page where you can donate and find out more. All who donate will receive a free copy on Precious Plastic and all businesses will be included in the printed resources.
