The Rationing to Rock and Roll exhibition will include screenings of the Royal Charter Pageant of 1953

There are just two weeks to go before Bridport Heritage Forum opens its much-anticipated 1950s theme exhibition 'Rationing to Rock and Roll', at Bridport Town Hall.

Organisers are currently focussing on one of most important events to have taken place in Bridport in the 1950s, with screenings of the Windrose produced film of the Royal Charter Pageant.

The Town Charter was granted in 1253 and the pageant marked the 700th anniversary with a spectacular re-enactment of seven scenes from the town's history, from its earliest of times up to the present day.

The event was opened by Princess Margaret and involved hundreds of cast members, drawn from every age group in the town, and was played out on St Mary's Field, all captured in the Windrose film.

Bridport Heritage Forum is hoping that many members of the original cast will attend with family and friends to view the film together with others, curious to know what the pageant was all about and see how Bridport celebrated 70 years ago.

Tickets for the screenings are currently on sale at Bridport Tourist Information Office for just £2.50. There will be two screenings in Bridport Town Hall, on Tuesday, August 1 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, with refreshments available.
