Bridport event of the week: the Great Big Green Week
We have introduced an event of the week article, highlighting something that is happening in and around Bridport.
This week's event is the Great Big Green Week, which includes numerous events taking place in Bridport.
There is a lot to see and do, including a cookery demonstration, workshops, a river ramble, trying out electric bikes and much more.
A spokesman for West Dorset Friends of the Earth said: "The upcoming talks in Glasgow are of monumental importance. The purpose of our involvement in the Great Big Green Week was to galvanise public support/awareness of what is happening in November - COP 26.
"The Great Big Green Week is a national campaign run via the Climate Coalition, aiming to create a mass of green events throughout the UK during this week, asking the question - particularly relevant after the IPCC's latest report - If not now, when?
"West Dorset Friends of the Earth, with our allies, has taken the role of prime instigator of events, urging other groups and businesses to partake in the week. As of August 29, there are 14 events planned and we hope to include more."
The week of events kicks off with an opening gathering on Saturday, September 18 from 10.30am to 2.30pm at Bridport Millennium Green.
There will be stalls - including Dorset Community Energy, Bridport Cohousing and Transition Town Bridport - music and will finish with a picnic. There will also be the chance to add your wisdom or frustration to a 7ft high mural.
The Treacle Eater Folk Band will open proceedings, followed by a local Taize choir. There will then be some short speeches about events taking place later in the week and a proclamation by the mayor. After, Psychadelephant will entertain the crowd, followed by the Socialist Choir.
Everyone is invited to picnic on the green and coffee, homemade soup and flatbread will be available throughout. People are urged not to use single use plastic and to take any rubbish home with them.
