Residents are being asked for their views on access and movement around the town.

Dorset Council and Bridport Town Council are undertaking an Access and Movement Study and wants your ideas about how access can be improved for all.

An interactive map can be found here where residents can submit their comments on certain areas of the town.

Some comments submitted include:

'Have South Street one-way north bound with only one lane passing between the town hall and The George. Then the pavements on this area can be radically widened.'

'Left hand turn only on exiting Downes Street.'

'20mph zone throughout town. End and beginning of zone to be: Lodge Lane turning in West Allington to west, brewery crossroads to the south, Hospital Lane turning to north. All areas inside that to be 20mph.'

'Make a cycle path from town to the Symondsbury Estate entrance.'

'Bottom of Holloway onto Sea Road South. It would be good to have a crossing here if possible. They have one right at the other end of Sea Road South. A significant number of vehicles are speeding here in excess of 40mph.'

The Bridport Area Neighbourhood Plan sets out 'Access For All' ambitions for the centre of Bridport. The long-term aspiration is to make it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport in an around the neighbourhood plan area, with the aim of reducing reliance on the car.

To this aim, Dorset Council is currently undertaking an Access and Movement Study and the town council has commissioned Streets Reimagined, a design practice looking at reimagining streets and urban spaces, and Highgate Transportation, a firm of traffic engineers, to support this work.

The focus of this study is the town centre, but the team will also be considering the wider context of the town.

The project is currently in stage 2, allowing residents to contribute ideas and comments which will be presented to the town centre working group, before developing options in April and May.
