Lyme Bay's reefs have been dubbed by some naturalists as England's Coral Garden. These precious habitats are home to a vast range of plant, animal and marine species.

Once under threat from intensive forms of fishing, they are now regenerating.

On Thursday, April 27 at 7.30pm, in the Salt House at West Bay, you can hear how a combination of protection measures and low-impact catch methods by local fishermen have helped to protect these marine habitats.

The evening, which is part of West Bay Discovery Centre's 'Beneath the Waves' programme, will consist of film and presentations by Blue Marine Foundation and the Lyme Bay Fisherman's Community Interest Company.

Advance booking is essential and tickets are available, priced £5 from Bridport Tourist Information Centre in person or online.

The Beneath the Waves exhibition is open at the West Bay Discovery Centre until the end of October. It offers a short history of fishing in Lyme Bay together with a look at the measures taken to conserve the underwater habitats.

Included are some stunning images of the corals growing on the underwater reefs. Entry to the Discovery Centre is free but donations are welcome.
