Jurassic Fields: 'Bigger names, bigger bands, bigger crowds... it exceeded my expectations'

Jurassic fields is bigger than it has ever been before, bigger names, bigger bands, bigger crowds.

The three-day frenzy was a mix of rock, folk, DnB, jazz and even a little bit of reggae. A jam-packed weekend that had something for everyone, families or teens. So, what were the highlights of the events?

Friday started in the evening and REWS took the stage, lining up our weekend with its 'alternative pop rock force'. High energy and a high intensity performance with lots of headbanging and jumping. This really set the stage for our first headliner, Pigeon Detectives. It was a wild show with the lead singer, Matt Bowman, climbing up the stage and got up close and personal with the audience. Front row of the crowd was splash zone for water too!

Saturday came about, the hottest day of the weekend, and it was one to remember. The day consisted of a wide variety of music.

As someone who couldn't stand much of the heat during the day, the evening was what stood out the most.

Arcade Hearts with its synth pop on main stage were criminally underrated. The band was followed by the spectacular that was Cut Capers who almost took the show with incredible music and energy, really getting everyone on their feet. While this was going on, the tent next door had something brewing. Datura Roots is a reggae inspired dub/smokey blues/jazz group from Teignmouth, and they kept the crowd up while we waited for our main act of the night, Mad Dog McRea. This folk/indie rock outfit from Plymouth blew everyone away, and even if you weren't a fan of folk, you were now. Spectacular vocals, the pennywhistle and violin all got the crowd jumping with joy. Afterwards I was able to talk to the lead singer, Michael Mathieson who was delighted to be at Jurassic fields - and the free drinks that came with it!

Sunday was a little bit cooler, but the mood was not. The last day, people were eager to see the main act, the wonderful Scouting for Girls. However, there were many other great acts before we saw the main event.

The Delta Sound was a highlight of the day with its rock 'n' roll blues infused tunes.

A change is schedule meant that Gabriel Templar was replaced by a Bridport favourite - Shelby's Elbows. This really drew a crowd which started gathering nearly 30 minutes before the duo were due on stage.

Then the evening came about, and we had the big stars, Scouting for Girls, and what a lovely show the band put on. Some people in the crowd may have gotten a bit too excited, but that night we were the fifth member of the band, and every second was a moment to remember.

Jurassic Fields was a great event, and I must say it beat all of my expectations, and is definitely worth attending again. The festival only gets better and I only hope the weather is as good next year!
