Police are appealing for information after a man was knocked over by a dog in Bridport and suffered an ankle injury.

At around 7.45am on Thursday, April 15, the victim - a man aged in his 30s - was running on St Mary's playing fields when he noticed a man with a brown Rottweiler coming towards him, which was not on a lead.

The victim moved out of the way to make space, bit it is reported that the dog started to run in his direction. The victim used his hands as a barrier, but the dog went towards his ankles, causing him to fall to the ground.

The owner did not stop to give his details. He is described as white with a tanned complexion, aged in his mid to late 30s, approximately five feet 10 inches tall and of slim athletic build.

During the incident, the victim sustained an injury to his ankle.

Police Constable Jennie Sykes-Martin, of Dorset Police, said: "This incident was very recently referred to Dorset Police by another agency and our enquiries are now underway to identify the dog owner and establish the full circumstances of the incident.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to please get in touch.

"I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man and his dog from the description given."

Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101, report it online, or email [email protected], quoting incident number 55210073427.
