The Nativity scene successfully fundraised for has arrived in Bridport and can now be seen.

A Crowdfunder campaign was launched to spread some Christmas cheer and bring the hand-crafted display to The Lyric Theatre.

Artist Edwina Bridgeman installed her Nativity scene in The Lyric on Tuesday.

Niki McCretton, owner of The Lyric Theatre said: "We can tell you it is a sight to behold. Each piece is a work of art. We can't wait to share it with you."

Viewing times are 2.30pm to 4.30pm Mondays to Thursdays, with a later opening until 6pm on Fridays.

On Saturdays, The Lyric will be open for the farmers' market and craft and vegan market, when the Nativity scene will be viewable in the café area during market opening times.

There will be 100 free peg doll kits available for children to take home and make then bring back to add to the scene.

Niki added: "We wanted to bring this Nativity scene to Bridport purely to spread some much-needed joy, to support an artist and to end this pretty miserable year on a positive note.

"Viewing the Nativity will be free and so are the take away peg doll kits. A lot of voluntary time and help has gone into enabling this to happen."

The Lyric's Crowdfunder campaign will remain open for donations online until December 24.

Niki said: "Since we reached our target, we have opened a stretch target and any funds raised within this will go directly to The Lyric, towards our bills, wages - one member of staff on one day a week - and overheads.

"If you enjoy the Nativity scene and feel you would like to contribute, we would hugely welcome any donations into our Crowdfunder.

"We are an unfunded venue and not for profit community interest company. We have not been able to present performances or workshops since March, so we have not made an income in our usual way, but we have still been here offering artist support in ways that we can and adapting to change, taking projects out of the building and into the community.

"We very much hope 2021 brings a better year for everyone and that we can reopen to welcome audiences back into the building. We look forward to seeing you."
