The Lamorna Cornish Colony of Artists: A September Art History course

From 18th September, The Lamorna Cornish Colony of Artists: A September Art History course about the Lamorna Group. Monday afternoons in Bridport 2pm OR Friday afternoons from 22nd Sept 2pm on line: These artists inhabited the Lamorna valley from 1902 onwards, a few miles south of Mousehole in west Cornwall, which developed as a centre for art, a few decades after the Newlyn painters. I am covering the instigation of the colony and the early decades of the 20th century. They were inspired by the valley landscape and the coastal views, a sense of place and the community, many responding to new directions and approaches to art, that had developed by this point in Britain, use of colour and expressive painting. It is quite wide ranging artwork. Lamorna Birch, Frank Gascoigne Heath, Elizabeth Forbes, Laura and Harold Knight, Alfred Munnings Charles Simpson, Ruth Simpson, but also the later artists, such as Gluck, Marlow Moss, Ithell Colquhoun, John Tunnard and John Armstrong.

Fee is £65 for 6 wks, 'drop in' lectures for £13 each. Venue United Hall, East Street, Bridport.

Online fee £60. To book and for more information email [email protected]
