  1. King Charles II. He was disguised as a servant when he travelled through Bridport in 1651 and briefly stayed at the George Inn, which is now the Cancer Research UK charity shop.

  1. He fled through Lee Lane. There is a stone in the lane near the A35 which states: King Charles II escaped capture through this lane.

  1. The Bull Hotel was the scene of a murder during the Monmouth Rebellion, when Lieutenant Coker of Mappowder was killed by Colonel Venner, an officer of the Duke of Monmouth in 1685. The Bull Hotel's new wine bar is called the Monmouth Bar.

  1. The Bridport Dagger is a cocktail offered by Dark Bear and includes ginger beer, lime, cassis, balsamic and gin - and it's delicious! Although, a point can also be had for those who stated it was a hangman's noose made out of local rope.

  1. There is a bronze plaque in the middle of West Bay's 'welcome hub', which features points of the compass and signposting to locations in West Bay.

  1. The West Bay Discovery Centre is in the former Methodist chapel near East Beach. It was renovated and opened in 2018.

  1. There was a large campaign by BACit to have a swimming pool in the town, which was made a reality when it was officially opened in Bridport Leisure Centre in 1994 by Sharon Davies MBE, Olympic gold medal winner.

  1. The oldest building in Bridport is The Chantry on South Street, and one of the oldest in Dorset. It was built in 1253.

  1. Bridport has 10 charity shops. Mencap, Weldmar, Scope and Cancer Research UK on East Street, another Weldmar shop on South Street and Age UK, Oxfam, YMCA, Sue Ryder and RSPCA on West Street.

  1. There are seven pubs in Bridport's town centre. The Woodman and George in South Street, the White Lion, Ropemakers and Market House in West Street and the Greyhound and Lord Nelson in East Street. You can have a point if you also included the Pursuit of Hoppiness, but the Tiger and Hope and Anchor do not count as neither are in East, South or West Street specified.

  1. Palmers Brewery has been brewing ales in Bridport since 1794, making it 226 years old.

  1. Woolworths in Bridport closed on January 5, 2009.

  1. Bridport was granted its borough charter in 1253, the same year The Chantry was built, during Henry III's reign, though its status was recognised before this time.

  1. Bridport is best known for its ropemaking industry, which continues today.

  1. West Bay has 11 kiosks around the harbour.

  1. Bridport became the UK's first Rights Respecting Town in 2018.

  1. The first Bridport Hat Festival started in 2009.

  1. It's the annual torchlight parade on the Sunday after Bridport Carnival.

  1. West Bay was previously known as Bridport Harbour. The name was changed to West Bay after rail links were made to the harbour and it was promoted as a tourist destination.
