Bridport now has a brand-new website full of everything you want to know about local food.

Bridport Food Matters includes not only a directory of independent suppliers, information about community food groups, how and where to access free food, but also tips about growing your own and adapting to climate change.

Two groups have come together to join up the dots of many facets of Bridport's vibrant local food scene - Bridport Local Food Group, best known for organising the Bridport Food Festival, and Seeding our Future, a local project supporting resilience to climate change.

Bridport town councillor Rose Allwork said: "As the effects of climate change begin to bite, it's going to be ever more vital to have access to good, locally grown food.

"Bridport council's climate action committee is very happy to support an initiative that brings together so much useful information for producers, consumers and voluntary groups.

"We believe Bridport has the potential to be close to self-sufficient for fresh food and Bridport Food Matters is an exciting step along that road."

The aim of the new website is to provide a one-stop location for information, resources and contacts, including:

  • A directory of local food and drink suppliers, including those offering home delivery
  • Local initiatives for food access, such as 'glut stalls', including opening times and contact numbers
  • Ways to increase our local food security and what we can do as consumers, producers and home growers
  • Local resources, including community initiatives, healthy eating, support groups and more, including recipes for healthy eating on a budget
  • Events, news, blogs and a gallery of pictures
  • A forum for people to share their views and requests on food matters

The site can be found at bridportfoodmatters.net.
