Officers investigating a report of a New Year's Eve assault in Bridport are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

 At about 11.50pm on Saturday, December 31 it was reported that a man aged in his 50s was assaulted outside the Number 10 bar in East Street. He received treatment for an injury to his eye.

Officers attended and a 40-year-old man from Halesowen, in the West Midlands, was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released on police bail as officers conduct further enquiries.

Police Sergeant Anneka Stone, of Dorset Police, said: "We are investigating this alleged assault and from our enquiries we believe there were a number of people in the vicinity at the relevant time.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has any information that might assist our investigation, to please contact us.

"I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam to please check their footage for anything of relevance."
